Locate the Application Application FLIGHTCHECK® recommends you locate the application which created the document, or rather the application you intend to use to print the document, and this is done by simply clicking on the "Application" button at the top-left of the main window, or by selecting "Locate Application..." from the FlightCheck® menu. Version Once the location of the application is known, FLIGHTCHECK® can then begin comparing the document's version to the selected application's version because if the version numbers are different (minor revisions can often be ignored) there is an increased possibility that text will flow differently when you use the application to open and print the document. Additionally, a lower version application may not even be able to open documents created by a higher version application. Language When the application is known, FLIGHTCHECK® can also check the language of the document and compare it to the language of the application. A different language application may cause different hypenation rules, word breaks and justifications to be employed, just to name a few of the potential problems when the versions do not match. Required XTs, PDF/PPD, Preferences When you have located the desired application, FLIGHTCHECK® can then scan the other now revealed locations to further advance the flightchecking process. For example, if you are using QuarkXPress®, FLIGHTCHECK® can then look inside the PDF (Printer Description File) folder and upon finding the PDF or PPD the document is using, FLIGHTCHECK® can then perform additional tests regarding the print output. Futhermore, if the document was created using a QuarkXTension which might be required to be active in order to open or print the document, FLIGHTCHECK® can then look in the XTension folder (since it resides within the folder containing the QuarkXPress® application). Addtionally, knowing the application source folder also allows FLIGHTCHECK® to find the XPress Preferences file. Locating the application can therefore be extremely critical not only because finding the application allows FLIGHTCHECK® to be more able to fully complete its flightchecking tasks, but because FLIGHTCHECK® will then be able to do a much better job in locating and collecting key files that comprise the entire job. Needless to say, failure to locate the desired application can lead to a handful of flagged "problems".
